Semi-Rigid Cervical Collar with Thoracic Extensions
This off-the-shelf, two-piece semi-rigid cervical collar is constructed from thermoplastic foam with anterior and posterior thoracic extensions, providing a higher level of cervical immobilization than standard soft or rigid collars. Designed for patients requiring post-surgical neck stabilization or recovering from cervical injuries, the thoracic extensions anchor the collar against the chest and upper back — dramatically improving motion control at the lower cervical and upper thoracic levels.
Key Benefits
- Enhanced Cervical Immobilization: Thoracic extensions restrict flexion, extension, and rotation beyond standard collar capability.
- Cervicothoracic Control: Anchoring against the chest and upper back stabilizes the lower cervical spine (C6–T2 region).
- Post-Surgical Protection: Shields fusion sites and healing tissue after cervical spine procedures.
- Comfortable Compliance: Lightweight thermoplastic foam encourages consistent wear throughout recovery.
Design Features
Anterior Thoracic Extension
Front panel extends onto the sternum to block forward flexion and anchor the collar securely.
Posterior Thoracic Extension
Rear panel reaches down the upper back to restrict extension and stabilize the cervicothoracic junction.
Two-Piece Construction
Separate front and back sections apply easily while the patient’s neck remains protected and still.
Thermoplastic Foam Body
Semi-rigid material delivers structured support while contouring comfortably to the patient.
Adjustable Closures
Hook-and-loop straps allow a secure, personalized fit across neck and torso sizes.
Chin & Occipital Support
Contoured chin and rear-skull cradles hold the head in neutral alignment around the clock.
Commonly Prescribed For
- Cervical spine support & stabilization
- Post-surgical neck immobilization (cervical fusion, discectomy)
- Neck injuries & cervical trauma
- Stable cervical fractures
- Cervical strain & whiplash requiring firm support
- Lower cervical / upper thoracic instability
- Degenerative cervical conditions
How It Works
Standard cervical collars anchor only around the neck, leaving the lower cervical vertebrae relatively free to move. By extending rigid support panels onto the sternum and upper back, this collar creates longer leverage arms that restrict flexion, extension, and rotation across the entire cervical spine — including the hard-to-control cervicothoracic junction. The semi-rigid thermoplastic foam maintains the head in neutral alignment, offloading healing vertebrae, discs, and surgical sites so recovery proceeds undisturbed.
